Group Info

This is a group for those who have experianced a trauma, any form of trauma, and for those effected by anothers trauma. The group is specifically aimed at those who developed PTSD or c-PTSD from these traumas but also welcomes those who have developed other problems, those who remained relitively uneffected by their experiances and those who have/are living with or supporting a survivor.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can occur after you have been through a traumatic event. A traumatic event is something horrible and scary that you see or that happens to you. During this type of event, you think that your life or others' lives are in danger. You may feel afraid or feel that you have no control over what is happening.

Anyone who has gone through a life-threatening event can develop PTSD. These events can include:

* Combat or military exposure
* Child sexual or physical abuse
* Domestic abuse
* Terrorist attacks
* Sexual or physical assault
* Serious accidents, such as a car wreck.
* Natural disasters, such as a fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, or earthquake.

After the event, you may feel scared, confused, or angry. If these feelings don't go away or they get worse, you may have PTSD. These symptoms may disrupt your life, making it hard to continue with your daily activities.

Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) is a psychological injury that results from protracted exposure to prolonged social and/or interpersonal trauma with lack or loss of control, disempowerment, and in the context of either captivity or entrapment, i.e. the lack of a viable escape route for the victim. C-PTSD is distinct from, but similar to, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Though mainstream journals have published papers on C-PTSD, the category is not formally recognized in diagnostic systems such as DSM or ICD.

C-PTSD involves complex and reciprocal interactions between multiple biopsychosocial systems. It was first referred to by Judith Herman in her book Trauma & Recovery and an accompanying article. Forms of trauma include sexual abuse (especially child sexual abuse), physical abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence or torture

James Alt is a Southern California native. Having survived a violent crime 33 years ago, he understands intimately the lasting effects that such a trauma can have on one’s life, both physical and emotional. At the age of 17, James was brutally attacked and left for dead; his 15 year old girlfriend lost her life on Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego, California. James suffered a major head trauma requiring reconstructive surgery to his head and face. Not only did he survive the horrific events of 1978, he has also survived bouts with depression, survivor’s guilt, PTSD and anxiety. Although this crime was headline news of the time, this violent attack still remains unsolved today. While still on his journey toward healing and resolution, James plans to actively advocate for others whose lives have been devastated by violent crime. He champions for victims rights and founded the Facebook page “Surviving Victims of Violent Crimes,” a space for others who share a commitment in raising awareness, and bringing to light the services and supports available to other victims of violent crimes.

Hello there! I have a question: I myself didn't go through this, but I made a short film on PTSD and how it affects soldiers who return from a war. Would it be appropriate to join the group or contribute this piece to the group? Thanks!

You might want to fix the name of the folder titled "boarderline personality disorder" to "borderline personality disorder" as what is there is incorrect. :aww:

Love this group. I have PTSD as a result of physical and sexual abuse as a child, that was made even worse by detention in a very abusive halfway house after I finished a jail sentence, and have bipolar disorder as well.
